which way to the egress?
i'm especially digging the carnival themed work emily martin of the black apple has been cooking up for a much antcipated proper gallery show, 'lost on the midway' at land gallery june 4th. . she's been listing some sneaks on her blog as a countdown to the show's opening & i'm always a sucker for anything carnival themed......

i do what i want when i want.
" I'd like to see Paris before I die. Philadelphia will do. "
channeling mae west these days whilst bloodletting in this wretched heat.
i wish i was in paris, but i suppose for now, philly & all it's ghosts will do.

offerings.
waxy diesembodied heads and busts dominant the cataloug of uk artist rebecca stevenson. her close attention to beauty and color thrills me and makes me think of sacrafices to ancient gods on smoky hilltops. macabre and beautiful, attracting and repelling, just the way i love it.....
as for me, i have a week packed with some fun (pow-wow monday!) & mostly work for renegade brooklyn next week!

unnatural desires.
ruth marten is part surrealism and part femme wit. her work reminds me primarily of max ernst, whose collage work i worship over here in the house of doom & gloom. her work is strange and inviting, curiously luring you in for a closer peek, daring you to come away from it unscathed.

darling i need a good drowning.
the renegade craft fair in brooklyn is now less than 2 weeks away. so there is new bloodmilk in the witche's brew, including new two- finger rings and some old favorites cast immortal in sterling silver. i'm also working towards a bloodmilk look-book that will hopefully land me some wholesale clients and i've been searching around for inspiration for it. which led me to the above self-portraits by canadian artist kristamas klousch. these shots look perfectly bloodmilk. they are somber and thrilling, beautiful and grotesque, and of course i can't resist a pouty mouthed masked lady, complete with raven hair. if only this lass lived in the u.s......

escape artists.
lately i've been having dreams of that particular black sea. sometimes the sea is black because it is a night sea & it glitters with the reflections of stars. other times it is black because it is ink. i dip my fingers in and they bleed dark onto the sand. something about fay ku's work reminds me of this dream, because it seems in the dream, i am always facing myself, and always looking for a way out or into the sea.

night travels.
when i was younger i used to try separating my spirit from my body as i had read we are able to do. although i never succeeded and now liken this desire to something closer to mediation than to a literal splitting or unstitching, i'm still fascinated by the concept. do our souls truly reflect everything in our hearts? even the depth of it's darkness, the nuances of it's lightness?
these sculptures by christina bothwell reminds me of my charmed youthful adventures and these mad thoughts i've been having as of late of goodness vs. badness, souls vs. our humanly bodies. beautifully made of cast glass and raku clay, i'd give a palm full of eyelashes to see one in person.

waist deep in blood milk.
lately i've been a little negligent around here, but only because i've been working to the bone to get all my new work together & ready for the 7th annual art star craft bazaar this weekend! if you're in philly, i hope to see you!, i'll be perched at booth #48, surrounded by friends and the love of my life, with an open vein. above are a bunch of new pieces i've listed over the last couple of days. some of these pieces have been in the works for months now & i'm excited to finally reveal them!

margaux & walter kent: the only place left.
walter kent
margaux kent
the first time i saw the work of margaux kent was at the very first art star craft bazaar i vended at a few years ago. everything about her and her work struck me, even the table she was using and the objects she had for display. happily her and her equally talented husband are showing this month at my gallery, the toothless cat, here in philly. 'the only place left' features work from both walter and margaux, including a special trunk show opening night featuring work from the black spot books, this saturday night from 6-10. if you're in the philly area i hope you can make it! if not, i'll be posting pictures soon.

off with her head! julie heffernan show.
some detail shots i took of the new julie heffernan show, boy oh boy at p -p-o-w gallery. although this work didn't quite touch me in the same way her earlier work does, it still was an amazing show of color, detail and oddness.

sneak peek: owl skull cocktail ring!
this is a giant sterling silver burrowing owl skull cocktail ring i've been working on. it's nearly perfected, just working out a few kinks. here it is in a gunmetal finish. it will be ready in time for the art star craft bazaar! i'll be at booth #48 this year, same spot as last year with the same lovely neighbors.
