her shapeless pain
Her shapeless pain was a disembodied thing. At night it stretched out over her like a tent while she slept. It grew like silk beneath her skin, threads of the past pulled taunt under her wrists, wailing inside her like something winged and dangerous.
Her shapeless pain fitted itself into the arrows of her eyes, drowned in the deep well of her gaze. It became a grand ship, tall sails billowing in the gloom, sailing off undirected: away, away, away.
Then she remembered. A word formed in her mouth. A burden became unburdened. Her shapeless pain sloughed off her skin like seaweed, a dry ribbon, frayed and folded in her palm. Something kept in her pocket for remembrance.
the sadness in her heart dimmed
He comes to her at night when her dreams begin to coil around her throat, when she is almost gone. It is there, in the dark heaviness of sleep, that he is the wolf. His teeth glitter with promise; a strange song of safety. His fur is thick between her fingers, her hair a pale channel that blooms above them like a deep wound. The undoing came gently and over time, but now that he is here, the sadness in her heart has dimmed.
blizzard at heart's gate
aside from being my designer & an integral part of blood milk's branding, artist paul romano creates personal works that i feel were formed from the strange yet wonderful matter of my dreams (i've already written about it here & here.) he recently renewed his XxXxX project in which he creates work at a 10x10 size, utilizing his skillful knowledge of a menagerie of mediums. used both as a large experiment and to flush out threaded themes, my favorite bits of this project are the 'nocturnes' which are an ongoing continuation of a series derived from a 2010 solo show. these darkly poetic, melancholic yet hopeful works feel so akin to what i hope i am accomplishing with blood milk; to me they share similar skins. a large selection of his most recent ones are on view and available here (rather inexpensively, i might add!), go take a peek!
