in the piazza, where my gallery, 'the toothless cat' lives, there are also many other wonderful galleries such as
'bambi gallery,' that hosts amazing monthly shows as well as handmade lovelies. this month's show 'unemployment paintings' by
sarah gamble really caught me in their childlike paint application which is built up as if squeezed directly from the tube. each painting has a haunted, lonely feeling that still retains hints of childhood nostalgia. my favorite one is this huge, victorian, seemingly abandoned house that has a rainbow filtering into it, that may or not be inspired by the lightning & subsequent fire the painter endured to her own home.
while i was there, i couldn't resist getting a picture of the love note a stranger left for gallery owner candace's bike. every now and then philly lives up to being the city of brotherly love.
