bonni reid does anais nin.

while away, i delved further into the 3rd diary of anais nin. before, i believe i had only skimmed the surface of her work with my fingertips, feeling the slight essence of her work. this past week i read by the sea, perfumed myself with bonfire smoke and watched melting sunsets that looked like they came from dreams. anais's writings seem to be the perfect catalyst for the new year and i hope to make many deeper journeys into my work. this lovely painting of anais, created by bonni reid, is a portrait of her wearing what she wore to a surrealist 'come as your madness' party. lovely & odd, just the way i love it.

Excellent. I wonder if there are any photographs from that party? What a splendid idea!

It should come as no surprise to you that i adore anais nin. Thanks for posting this; it reminds me of a similarly infamous costume that painter Leonor Fini wore to another (or perhaps the same) party. The rules were that all attending had to be naked from neck to knees, so she wore white knee-high boots, a white cloak, and an elaborate white feathered headdress. No one throws parties like they used to, eh?
