dear reader, please help.

Photobucket
dear readers,
i feel as if i've been released, as if i've resurfaced from a time spend underwater holding my breath. i had been working on all new bloodmilk since january, the efforts of which have been revealed on etsy & at renegade bk (some pieces are still under wraps but will be brought to light soon!). it has been months of blood, tears, huge mistakes and turbulent trials. everything i believed in had been called into the interrogation room yet i feel triumphant and exhausted .......................and in need of a good book.
which is why i'm asking for you to help! i need some suggestions. my tastes ranges from speculative fiction (kelly link, karen russell) to the apocalyptic sci-fi (matthew derby) to the poetic and strange (geek love by katherine dunn, anything by the glorious stacey levine.) do you have any suggestions for me while i spend a few days in bed recovering?
xo

Oh how I loved 'Geek Love', I actually thought about it just the other day. I don't read as much sci fi as you do, but I thought of 'The Sparrow' by Mary Doria Russell. I really enjoyed it when I read it a couple of years ago. Hope this helps

A short and sweet one that I sincerely believe you will love (if you don't love it already):

The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster.

It's children's literature but I think an adult can take a lot from it, because you'll be able to understand some of the subtle subtext better.

Enjoy :)

Have you read Steps of the Sun by Walter Tevis? Do you like Heinlein?

Feel better!

Oh man, my first suggestion was Geek Love! :)
But if you like silly Monster B-movies, I suggest Monster Hunters International by Larry Correia! It's a quick silly read. I also suggest The Children's Hospital by Chris Adrian. It's long... but boy of boy is it worth it!

"City of Saints and Madmen" and then the follow up "Shriek" by
Jeff Vandermeer or "Counting Heads" by David Marusek... definitely.

Sum by David Eagleman is a good respite read. I have been following your jewelry and art observations for nearly a year. I enjoy them immensely.

I don't know if I'm too late but..

The Book of Lost Things. by John Connolly

Seems we have the same taste in literature so I'm sure this will be up to your fancy. A perfect blend of horror, whimsicalness, beauty and fear.

Hope it's not too late..but my favorite of all time, if you have not read yet is... Hemingway's "Garden of Eden" such an escape for me!! A world I dream to be tangled in! xo-lo

I may be too late, but I wanted to mention Andrew Davidson's "The Gargoyle." A painful, beautiful, haunting book about love and the power of stories. It is not to all tastes, and the first few chapters are harsh, but it is striking.

For something a bit gentler, I'm a huge fan of Meredith Pierce's YA Darkangel trilogy with vampires. This was the series that as a child made me realize that I was a fantasy fan!

I can't wait to track down some of the suggestions here!
