while touring the massive art gatherings of pulse/volta/ and the armory in nyc for hi-fructose today, i stumbled onto a large, original henry darger painting. although it's not the one pictured above it was amazing to see the evidence of the handwork of the artist up close. to see something not meant to be seen. to see his tribe of brave warrior girls, in rows of identical twins, huddled inside a building watching the terrible weather outside and conversing with one another in the language of the world he mastered. to see it in person gave me that spiritual swelling i get when i sometimes encounter objects of personal legend.
