esther pearl watson's work is a bit different than what i'm normally attracted to, but all the tales behind them really reel me in. her dad used to build these 'flying saucers' from scrap parts etc. in their yard and seemed an overall quirky fellow. it makes me think of my dad, who was always so gifted with his hands and would build me things as a girl.
