also on my trip to see the woodman show (see below post for more) we journeyed across town to the ana cristea gallery to see new work from artist nicola samori. his paintings draw from classical allusions, slicing in modern imagery culled from the interwebs; adding in a curious technique that makes the work feel olde to me; ripped open and corroded by something 'other.' the way he obscures faces (and in doing so, identity), the layers of paint built up and torn like layers of glistening skin or soft armor is stunning and horrific.
