if you've known me for any length of time, you'll know that lydia deetz is my muse & fashion reference point. all black, filmy, lacey clothing / inky hair / & a sombre attitude punctuated by a quirky curiosity for the afterlife. and of course, stripes. my eye is immediately drawn to anything anything with graphic black and white stripes. it's become an obsession over the last few years and I burn my eyeballs on the olde cartoon series (yes i have all the trading cards too) I got in a shady on-line deal. i even have a 'beetlejuice' striped lamp in my studio. . . .

this editorial by matthew shave sharply nails a lithe, adult lydia straddling worlds. even my phantom limbs are swooning.

ps. there is word of a beetlejuice remake. i'm not sure how i feel about this.

i'm on the cusp of turning 30. for a more light hearted thought . . . hopefully next month i'll be wearing a pair of these decadent shoes and out drinking a violet infused cocktail surrounded by family & friends.

strapped in.

my 90% all black wardrobe is only punctuated by bloodmilk & often zana bayne harnesses to add a punchy detail to the plainness of my clothing choices. for me, my fashion reference point is a cocktail of lydia deetz/ beetlejuice ( the other 10% of my wardrobe is blk & white stripes) and the young bloods of ray ceasar's paintings who are often wearing harnesses. a bit odd but necessary. so i was thrilled to see the first images of her new fall line, my favorites of which are pictured above.

there is really nothing punk about me except my extreme aversion to authority but i've been obsessed with these shoes. i admit its been a bit more fashion heavy on here these days and this is in part due to all the research i've been doing for lookbook moodboards & partly because, well, i'm into aesthetics and therefore have this macabre attraction to fashion as a kind of psychic armor & which is normally outweighed by my attractions to art, bizarre fiction etc. . . . anyway, i hope to snag a white pair for the fall.

seeing all.

queen elizabeth i would wear gowns emblazoned with disembodied eyes and ears, suggesting to her court / relam that she had the mystical power to "see & hear everything." while it was a sort of subtle politically terrorism, i always found it to be strange, not the sort of gown you'd expect a royal queen to be wearing, but rather shrouding a high priestess. . . . this tradition contiunes on in clothing designer duo teamo, who created the intriguing above pieces. hailing from mexico city, their intent may also have been derivative of mexican milagros, charms featuring abstracted body parts that were imbued with a kind of sympathetic, healing magic....

i've always been attracted to this idea, of abstracted eyes as an adornment, i have 9 tattooed on me for protection & luck & have started incorporating them into new bloodmilk. i've been filling my sketchbook with scratchy drawings & finding amazing antiques to collage into these ideas. there will even be a small line of handpainted eyes set behind glass . . .
