mari shimizu does dolls

Photobucket
although i've been creeped out (seriously) by dolls since my childhood, (my teddy ruxpin doll definitely talked to me once without batteries in it), i've been fascinated by the dolls that japanese artist mari shimizu makes. i couldn't find many images of her work, but there are some here. they remind me a bit of wax saint statues and a little like some of my favorite paintings by jennybird & mark ryden, when there are landscapes inside dresses or within the chests and throats of beautiful women.

Shimizu is fabulous! Sadly, Jenny Bird doesn't have any items for sale in her Etsy shop. Ryden is incredible as always. Think I saw his work first in the magazine Hi-Fructose. Thanks for sharing.

I just have to say, I love your blog's aesthetic. It's so difficult to find a page that's not an eyesore, let alone beautiful and strange like yours.

Also, your twin paintings are wonderful.
