aganetha dyck does honey comb.

there is something so magnetic & strange about insects and their nesting habits. honey comb and wasp nests are these intricate networks of tunnels and hives made by these tiny busy thing with wings. while wasps tend to be rather nasty, bees have forged a prettier identity among the literary & art minded. i recently stumbled upon artist aganetha dyck who creates these amazing assemblages with honey comb and bees wax. She is interested in "inter species communication" & although her work is centered around the horrors of what might happen should the honey bee become extinct, i find it strange and lovely & hope to incorporate this idea into my new work.

oh! i love it!

i used to love to go to this nature center where they had a transparent wall where the bees would build their nests and honey while i watched.

Aganetha actually had a show at the Canadian Clay and Glass Museum out in Waterloo, Ontario where i'm currently living. There isn't much of an art scene at all out here so i was super exited to check it out, but of course i missed it by a couple of days :( Anyways, it was great to see that you posted about her.
Are you familiar with Shary Boyles work? Coincidently she is part of a group show out here at the local art museum KWAG (Pandora's Box, including Kara Walker and Amy Cutler and others) Probably not worth the trip up to Canada ... but you could check out her site, i think you'd enjoy them, particularly her sculptures.
btw did you get my white deer?
